About AMH Gold Plus
AMH Gold Plus is a package of tests used to determine a person's fertility status. Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) is a blood test used to assess ovarian reserve (the quality and quantity of follicles produced in the ovaries) in women. Females of childbearing age can have thousands of eggs, but their ovarian reserve decreases as they age. The anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) test is used to determine whether or not a woman is fertile.
AMH Gold Plus packages tests for hormones such as anti-mullerian hormone (AMH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin test, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test, progesterone, and testosterone.
Symptoms of Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

Specifications for AMH Gold plus test
In women:
An AMH test is prescribed to assess the ovarian reserve in women of childbearing age who are being investigated for infertility. This test reveals how many eggs a woman still has and whether her ovaries are aging too quickly. To prepare for in vitro fertilization, an AMH test is also used to assess the effectiveness of injectable fertility medications (IVF).
In infants:
In infants with no identifiable external genitals (that are not male or female), an AMH test is ordered. This will help in determining the sex of the baby. By measuring the AMH level, this test can also help determine whether the testicles in baby boys are functioning normally.
Interpretation of results
| Parameter | Normal range |
|---|---|
| AMH | 1.0 – 7.0 ng/mL |
| FSH | 1.5 – 12.4 IU/L |
| LH | Follicular phase of menstrual cycle: 1.68 – 15 IU/mL Midcycle peak: 21. 9 – 56.6 IU/mL |
| Prolactin test | Non-pregnant: <25 ng/mL Pregnant: 80-400 ng/mL |
| TSH | 0.5 – 5.0 IU/L |
| Progesterone | Prepubescent girls: 0.1 – 0.3 ng/mL Follicular stage of the menstrual cycle: 0.1 – 0.7ng/mL Luteal stage: 2 – 25 ng/mL |
| Testosterone | 15 – 70 ng/ dL |
Deviations from the normal ranges:
- High AMH Levels: High levels of AMH may be an indication of PCOS. There is no proper cure for PCOS; however, symptoms can be managed through lifestyle modifications such as a healthy diet and weight management. High AMH levels are also seen frequently in certain types of ovarian cancer.
- Low AMH Levels: Low AMH levels could be a sign of poor ovarian reserve, meaning a low number and decreased quality of eggs. This helps indicate your chances of becoming pregnant and how long you may be able to delay pregnancy if desired.
- FSH Levels: High FSH levels are commonly seen during menopause. They may also be elevated if you are receiving hormone therapy or have certain types of cancer. Low FSH levels could indicate infertility, rapid weight loss, or pregnancy.
- LH Levels: In individuals of childbearing age, high LH levels may indicate an issue with the ovaries. In older individuals, elevated LH levels may suggest perimenopause or menopause. High levels can also be associated with PCOS. Low LH levels may indicate malnutrition or improper functioning of the pituitary gland.
It is always advisable to consult your healthcare provider about your test results.
FAQs
Yes. It is advisable to take the AMH Gold Plus test if you are experiencing irregular periods to know what the underlying condition might be. In case of low AMH levels, it is either an indication that you might be having early signs of premature ovarian failure or even menopause.
No. AMH Gold Plus is a simple blood test that involves negligible risks. Blood tests might cause a slight pain or bruise at the site of needle insertion for blood withdrawal. It usually subsides within a few minutes to an hour. Rarely, the site can become infected.
The test results for AMH Gold Plus may be available within 2-5 days after the sample collection. However, it might take a little longer at times.
AMH levels gradually decrease with increasing age. The below box represents the normal levels of AMH in different ages.
| Age in years | AMH level (ng/mL) |
|---|---|
| 25 | 3.0 |
| 30 | 2.5 |
| 35 | 1.5 |
| 40 | 1.0 |
| 45 | 0.5 |
The number of eggs in your ovaries is simply reflected in your AMH levels. The number of eggs in the ovaries cannot be increased by raising AMH levels. In the ovaries, eggs only multiply once, just before you are born, and gradually decrease throughout your reproductive life.
