Allergy tomato blood test measures the total amount of allergen specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) in an individual’s blood. IgE is a type of antibody which is produced by the body’s immune system.

Type 1 hypersensitivity to tomatoes is known as a true tomato allergy. Allergens present in tomatoes include a profilin, a lipid transfer protein, a beta-fructofuranosidase and a pectin methylesterase inhibitor.
